Easter is a special day in Bulgarian history. On April 3, 1860, in the still wooden church "St. Stefan" in Istanbul, Bishop Hilarion of Makarios for the first time did not mention the name of the Ecumenical Patriarch, but addressed himself with the words: "Every bishopric of the Orthodox". These are words in Old Bulgarian, which the Russians call Church Slavonic. This expression is used only by the head of an autocephalous church. These are the first words on the way to the independent Bulgarian church. Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov said about the Bulgarian Easter and the scandalous claim that the Rila Monastery is the guardian of Serbian spirituality.
Before 164, the Bulgarian struggle for church independence entered its decisive phase. This is a consequence of the Ecumenical Patriarch's refusal to satisfy symbolic Bulgarian demands – one is for the services to be in Bulgarian, the second – bishops to be elected and the third – to have a fixed salary.
"The request that church services be in Bulgarian is not a small request. Language is very important – he is the bearer of the national. These neoliberals who now say the opposite, that in the Middle Ages there were no such concepts, no nation, nationality, it is exactly the opposite. The language spoken by the Wallachians and Macedonian governors until the 17th century was pure Bulgarian," explained Prof. Ovcharov.< /p>
"Until the 17th century, the Bulgarian language was spoken in Wallachia. Then the power in Wallachia was seized by the Patriarchate of Constantinople. This is the so-called Phanariot period. The Greek Ecumenical Patriarchate used language, religion to assimilate the surrounding countries. In Wallachia it succeeds – the Bulgarian language was thrown out, Greek came, then it was replaced by Wallachian", he said.
